Objectives
IEE manufactures smart sensors in production halls where downtime is expensive. Production has to run without pauses, and the individual machines and components have to keep talking to each other while it does.
When the company approached us, they asked for an on-premise Docker Swarm solution. We proposed RKE2 Rancher Kubernetes instead. It gave them one way to manage their containerized applications, with high availability and room to scale.
Solution
The platform runs on RKE2 Rancher Kubernetes on-premise, with HAProxy and Keepalived handling load balancing. We also built out the infrastructure around it: a registry, GitLab and SonarQube.
Ansible automation and CI/CD pipelines keep day-to-day operations repeatable. The entire IEE production now runs on that Kubernetes platform across China, Mexico, Slovakia and Luxembourg.
